Care and Handling of your Silk

Silk is surprisingly durable and long lasting. In fact, pound for pound, silk fiber is stronger than steel. All DonkeyGirl silk is pre-washed twice: once before and once during the dying process. This means you don’t have to worry about shrinking, or changes in texture.

For best results, hand wash your garment and tumble dry on gentle setting.

If you insist on machine washing your garment, know that the hand-dyed nature of the fabric will cause some bleeding. Wash it by itself on the gentle cycle.

Velvet can be steamed to remove wrinkles. With all other silks, always iron on the reverse side.

On a final note, you may be pleased to know that silk has one of the smallest ecological footprints of all the mass-produced textiles.
